Neil

The Innocent
Who he is....
Neil is the (a) Deep Eye's Air Force trained pilot, although sometimes he works as an infantryman.  I'm not entirely sure why this is.  He also works with machinery and electronics, breaking or fixing things as he deems fit.
Conceptions....
Sometimes I think I'm imagining it, but Neil seems to have a childlike quality about him.  He knows what's going on, but it doesn't seem to affect him like it does the others.  Whatever it is, he seems to have a natural reaction of going blank when something bad happens.  As a characteristic (and not the possible exception of poor acting), this is probably a good thing for him.

I highly doubt Neil is that wimpy.  He can run in at least sixty lbs. of armor (spread over his body, granted), carry a (goodness knows how heavy) gun, and still fight worth a damn after the sprint.  When compared to the other Deep Eyes, he may be a bit under average, but still....

Although Neil is often portrayed in fanworks as someone with an aptitude for computer sciences, such skills might be beyond him.  Most likely he can use a computer, and could probably build a computer, too.  However, his programming abilities may leave something to be desired.

On Scoundrels, Tricksters, and Thieves....
I believe that Neil is the Final Fantasy movie's equivalent of Square's classical thief characters.  The old thieves were just quick, smart, and slightly weaker fighters (and the earliest couldn't steal).  When they got personalities, most were traditional 'heart of gold,' scoundrels.  Neil seems to be the fast, intelligent, sneaky, but good willed type.  Or perhaps it's just a coincidence.
