Gray Edwards (voiced by Alec Baldwin) is a military Captain and leader of the elite Deep Eyes Squadron which patrols the vast restricted wasteland overrun by alien creatures.  He is determined, focused, intrepid, and valiant.  A loyal soldier, effective leader, and trustworthy friend, he lets his conscience guide him.

A military captain and leader of the elite Deep Eyes squadron, Gray confronts enemies and aliens alike – head on. Gray's reputation for loyalty and trustworthiness earns him the unquestioning support of his troops, whom he leads into battle with unhesitating courage and determination. Yet, the biggest challenge he faces may be his devotion to a woman.

Born in Chicago in 2034, Gray Edwards was raised in a loving family. The eldest son of a civil engineer, Gray's father tried to keep his family safe and intact during the years before the barrier cities were developed. Forced to care for his family alongside his father at an early age, Gray showed strong signs of leadership. Prior to the construction of the Chicago Barrier City, Gray was active in the youth task force, providing protection and assistance to the remaining citizens of Chicago. In the draft of 2050, Gray was enlisted in the Los Angeles USMF. Praised for his quick-thinking and skilled athleticism, Gray quickly rose to the rank of Cadet leader.

Showing great skill within the ranks of the Cadets, Gray was recruited into the Houston Military Academy (HMA) at the age of 17. Through the HMA curriculum, Gray received training in physical sciences and engineering along with humanities and the social sciences. After several successful training missions, Gray was given leadership over other missions and consecutive wasteland reconnaissance. During one of his training missions he met Aki Ross. Often assigned to similar missions, he as squadron leader and she as medical assistant, they began a relationship in complete secrecy. Two years into their relationship, Gray was assigned to the elite Deep Eyes Squadron and Aki returned to New York Barrier City to complete her education.

As Aki pursued her research, Gray, along with Jane, Neil and Ryan, conducted search and rescue missions throughout the Barrier Cities and wastelands.  Despite the distance, Aki and Gray continued their relationship. However, unbeknownst to Gray, Aki became infected with Phantom particles during a freak accident. In her attempt to save her life she isolates herself from everyone, including Gray. Unable to reach Aki and not knowing the reason why she left him, Gray is filled with pain and sorrow over the woman that he loves.
